Criminal Defense

justice-175x234If you’ve been charged with a crime, whether it’s a speeding ticket, a DUI, or something more serious, you come face to face with a court system that can be confusing and frightening.

At Lampe Law Group, we believe passionately in the rights of people accused of crimes. Our criminal defense lawyers have years of experience helping clients navigate their way through the criminal justice system. We work hard to advocate our client’s case in order to achieve the best possible result.

The criminal defense work at our firm is handled by Tim Morisette and Adam Elling. Throughout Tim’s career, he has excelled in criminal defense.  In his early years of practice, he served as a contracted public defender while also representing many private clients.  Tim has successfully represented people in several counties throughout the state, including Hennepin, Dakota, Scott,  Goodhue, Rice, and Steele counties, to name a few.

Beginning in 1988, Tim served as the prosecutor for the city of Northfield,  a position he held for over 21 years.  During this time, he noted that former prosecutors representing defendants were often his most formidable adversaries.  As an experienced prosecutor, Tim acquired first hand knowledge about the inner-workings of law enforcement.  As a criminal defense lawyer, he now utilizes this valuable expertise to find the holes and weaknesses in investigations, police policies and procedures, and evidence preservation.

Serving as both a prosecutor and defense lawyer, Tim has acquired extensive courtroom experience.  He has conducted jury trials in seven different counties, and appeared for court trials and hearings in many other counties.  He has an excellent command of proven trial techniques and strategies, as well as a thorough knowledge of court administration policies and procedures, all of which helps him get the best possible results for his clients.

Adam cut his teeth in the criminal law world while working as law clerk to the Honorable Thomas M. Neuville in Rice County District Court.  In his role he worked on various cases including DUI/DWI, assault, sexual assault, attempted murder, burglary, theft, robbery, terroristic threats, and a variety of other petty offenses.  Working on matters from a judge’s perspective gave Adam a unique insight into how decisions are made in criminal matters.  Adam also had the opportunity to meet with juries after their deliberations on criminal cases.  During these sessions he was able to learn how the jury reached its decision and what is important to jurors as they sit through a criminal trial.

Adam, like Tim, also works on the other side of the courtroom as a prosecutor; doing prosecution work for the cities of Hampton, Randolph, and New Trier.  From this experience Adam has been able to understand the perspective of both sides of the law, and is able to use his skills and knowledge to the benefit of his clients.
